Located near Aspen, Conundrum Peak reaches 14,060 feet, however, it is not recognized as an "official" Colorado 14er since it does not rise the magic 300 feet above the connecting saddle with Castle Peak. Sub-peak or not, it is a worthwhile climb in its own right, and a badge of awesomeness should be worm for reaching the top.

Taking its name from its castellated summit, at 14,279 ft Castle Peak is the highest summit of the Elk Mountains. Like all castles this one needs to battle for position as two other peaks share the name, one in Eagle County at 11,280 ft and the other in Mesa County at 8,140 feet.

Some feel that listing Ellingwood Point as a true 14er is somewhat controversial since it barely meets the "300 ft Rule" and is also quite close to its good buddy Blanca Peak. Since it was named after an early pioneer of mountain climbing in the Western United States and in Colorado in particular, we'll go ahead and celebrate the accomplishments of Albert Russel Ellingwood with a Peak Patch!
