Elk Mountains - Range Patch

Rising nearly 9,000 ft above the Roaring Fork Valley, the Elk Mountains are home to some amazing Colorado treasures. In addition to be home to Aspen Ski Resort the range contains the “Maroon Bells”, one of the most photographed landscapes in Colorado and featured by Peak Patch. The range provides a formidable barrier to travel and is traversed only by backroad passes and trails, which only adds the beauty of the area. Since the days of the Colorado Silver Boom, the range has been the site of mining activity. Treasure Mountain, overlooking the town of Marble, is home to the famous Yule Marble Quarry, which produced the marble used to create The Tomb of the Unknowns, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Denver Post Office and other buildings.

Running north-south from it provides travelers of the I-25 corridor scenery from Casper, Wyoming and Pueblo, Colorado.
